… investigates how serial office buildings can be transformed into housing by working with their existing structural logic. Using the Siemensareal in Munich-Obersendling as a case study, three residential principles are developed from the same structure: a compact base unit, an adaptable housing system and a communal core. Grid, building depth, circulation, façade and services become parameters for evaluating residential suitability, forming a transferable method for the transformation of comparable office buildings.
